What the heck is an STD anyway?!

So you got an STD in the mail and you have no idea what to do with it.

Most people put them on their refrigerator or tuck them away in their calendar for a sweet reminder later.

Oh, wait, you’re still not sure why I’m talking so sweetly about an STD?  Let’s elaborate…Save the Date!

Now that we have our heads out of the gutter, let’s talk about this little wedding reminder that on occasion finds itself in your possession.

A save the date is just that–someone thinks you are special enough to attend their wedding (or some other special event although I’m not sure what event that might be..) and they want you to know six to eight months in advance that their event will take place on the specific date listed on the STD.

As a bride, typically you will want to have your STD’s ready to be mailed four to eight months prior to your wedding in order to allow your guests adequate time to prepare–they just might need to travel and sleep overnight, so it’s a good thing to give them some time to book their flights and snag their sleeping headquarters!

The information on a save-the-date is usually pretty limited to the wedding date, location, name of the bride and groom, and if applicable, a wedding website address.

Here’s what my husband and I did for ours:

I did a little editing and made this postcard on Vistaprint.com.  I only needed about 60 of them (we had quite a few out-of-towners), but since they were postcards, Vistaprint has specials a lot where you can get 100 free and just pay shipping–that’s what I did!!  For $7, I just couldn’t pass it up.

Ok, so now that you know what an STD is and can do for you, next time I’ll talk about how to decide what STD is right for you and your event!
